Pete Caldera's recap of last night's game offers a piece of information that I failed to bring you in my "recap" last night when I put together DECKED IN BALTIMORE! I apologize. Caldera always keeps me on my toes.
Caldera wrote specifically about the Yankees' defense. If you have bad defense, your team will lose. Hell, it goes as basic as Little League ball and moves all the way to the Pros. If you don't have Big "D", you rarely win a game and that's why there's something called practice. Hell, my Little League team got demolished on Tuesday because our defense was tragic. You must have good "D". Check out what Caldera wrote today:
"...During a particularly shaky defensive game for the Yanks, Headley
experienced nausea after taking a grounder off the groin for an error
that began Baltimore’s third-inning rally. Headley, listed as day to
day, was replaced in the fifth inning while Pineda lasted just 4¤
innings...'We just played sloppy,' Brett Gardner said. 'Hopefully, we got it all out of our system.'...
The Yanks’ shoddy defense included a throwing error by Gold Glove first
baseman Mark Teixeira, snapping his career-high 109-game errorless
streak. In the seventh, Gardner and Carlos Beltran stood as a catchable
outfield fly dropped between them. Headley’s team-high 14th error of the year was on a ball that came up, striking him in a sensitive area."
I hate errors, and it was the errors that killed the team last night... not to mention Pineda who was just terrible. I'll tell you something though... a bad pitching outing happens. A bad defensive game should never happen like it happened last night. And like Gardner said, 'Hopefully, we got it all out of our system.'"
Yup... Hopefully.
Caldera strikes again. Always going that extra beat, to bring a nugget. Gotta love Pete.
