A win for America on Memorial Day? Oh sure. Call it whatever you'd like. I'm just happy we were able to score more than 3 runs today. I would have been happy with 6. Hell... I was thrilled with their 8-run 1st! 14 is kind of over the top, but I'll take it knowing good and well we blew our load today and we won't score a lick next game. That's usually how it works... I know, I sound so negative.
The Yanks scored 8 in the first, 3 in the 2nd, 1 in the 5th and 2 in the 7th. They never stopped fighting today. In the process, Nathan Eovaldi is now 4-1, going 7 innings, giving up 8 hits and only 1 run. But it was the offense that stole the show... a lot of homers too.
In the first, things went like this... Chase Headley hit a 2 run homer. Then Brian McCann hit a 3 run homer. After that, it was Brett Gardner homering... a 3 run shot as well.
In the second, Stephen Drew hit a 3 run homer, knocking in McCann and Garrett Jones.
In the bottom of the 5th, Headley doubled knocking in a run. Then, come the bottom of the 7th, Slade Heathcott hit a 2 run shot. Real nice!
Those are your runs... those are your Yanks.... the big question though... Can the Yanks turn it around now? Sure, they came back big today after a 6 game losing streak, but can they dig deep now and start to have a winning streak? We shall see.
Final: Yankees 14 - Royals 1
