ELLSBURY SAYS HE'LL BE READY FOR OPENING DAY

I feel like whenever Jacoby Ellsbury's name and "injury" are in the same sentence, I should just hide in a bunker. Since he signed on with the Yankees it's been our biggest concern.

Luckily it isn't too serious, this time. Wednesday, the Yankees announced he would miss at least seven days of baseball activities due to a mild oblique strain. Okay, cool. I could deal with that. Not such a big deal. Ellsbury is saying he will be ready to play on opening day.

"It feels a lot better already," Ellsbury told ESPN. "I feel very confident that I'll be there Opening Day ready to play."

If you remember, last year at Spring Training, Ellsbury suffered a calf strain. He missed the last few weeks of Spring Training, but did play at Opening Day, and had a phenomenal April with the Yankees. Ellsbury isn't worried about it. Joe Girardi isn't worried about it. Guess I'm not going to pitch too much of a fit either.

B-T-Dubz... The New York Post had the best headline on this. "Jacoby Ellsbury in bubble wrap for 7 days with oblique strain." I laughed a little too hard at that, actually. Reminded me of Jake Gyllenhaal in "Bubble Boy." It's one of those knee slapper movies. Kind of like "Pee Wee Herman" but not... Just, watch the movie if you haven't. It's hilarious!

Anyway, if it has to be an injury, better a mild one during Spring Training when the games don't actually count. He may not get the extra at bats to work out those off season kinks, but I'm okay with that if it means he will be healthy and productive during the season. So rest up, Ellsbury.
