DROB DOESN'T WANT 'PAPELBON MONEY'... HE WANTS A SOLID CONTRACT

Andrew Marchand knows that it you attach "Papelbon Money" to a New York Yankee, the whole Yankee world goes crazy mad! Blood will boil!  Yankee fans are funny, but fans need to read between the lines.

This is Andrew Marchand's headline:  Robertson seeks 'Papelbon money'

Now listen... DRob didn't say he wanted 'Papelbon Money'. Marchand technically didn't say it either.  A "...a baseball official with knowledge of the discussions" said that.  Damn, that makes for a good headline, don't it?

I even tweeted Marchand saying I at least appreciated his strategy, a headline sure to be read by all of Yankeeland! He didn't respond. I guess he's afraid I'm going to take him to the woodshed like I did SI's Joe Sheehan (HERE) or something.
I'm not. Marchand is a hardworker and good guy over all.  I have no beef. But I digress...

Look, David Robertson is a free agent, not a criminal for wanting the best contract he can get in the major leagues. Let's not forget that that's what free agency is.  If you act like a neanderthal and read Andrew Marchand's headline today, you really don't want to read anything else, because you become out of control and suddenly your anger goes toward DRob for being "greedy" and "selfish" and a dick.

Well, None of that is true.  What IS true is that David Robertson just wants a solid deal and if that means testing the waters, so be it.  Baseball is a business. Sure, we want him back in pinstripes, but we also need to be smart enough to know that he's allowed to see what's out there.  Trust me when I tell you, DRob won't shut the door on the Yankees.  He'll check in with them at some point... so calm down.

In the end, Yankeeland is vulnerable, I get that.  Our closer is looking for a new contract and all we have in the back of our mind is being heartbroken by Robinson Cano.  Think of baseball as a business... maybe DRob will be back, maybe he won't, but the bottom line is, read the articles the sports reporters put out... not just the headline.  Believe it or not, you might learn something.

At the end of the process, DRob will find his worth and his home, and all will be fine.  You gotta have faith as a fan, you really do.

Oh yeah... and you gotta READ!
