CAPUANO SOLID, McCANN CLUTCH & ICHI-ROLLIN'
It was a big day in Yankeeland. 4 in a row is a winning streak and it's now just a matter oF trying to chip away to make a run for either the wild card or the Division lead. It ain't easy, but if the Yankees keep winning, they'll have a good shot. You gotta believe... that's what fans do.
Once again the pitching did their job. The other part of this was the offense. 7 runs today, something the Yankees rarely do. So now I think it's safe to say that maybe there is some life in those old bones. Maybe the Yankees can in fact keep fighting.
Chris Capuano went 6 innings and gave up 6 hits and only 3 runs. I applaud Capuano for his hard work. He is doing everything the Yankees asked him to do. He's a competitor and I appreciate him being there. Say what you will about Cashman, but the Capuano pickup was smart. The only other run was given up by David Robertson. Other than that, the bullpen was solid.
The Yankee run scoring went like this:
Mark Teixeira doubled and knocked in Martin Prado. Shortly after that, Zelous Wheeler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Tex scored.
It was then that Ichiro singled and knocked in 2 runs. For me personally, the single was significant. It was the start of the Yankees making their comeback today. Without it, who knows if what happened next actually happens.
With the game knotted at 4, and in extra innings in the 10th, it was Brian McCann who had his clutch moment. McCann hit a 3 run homer to put the Yankees ahead. It was a walk off... and it was big... real big.
Applaud Capuano, Ichiro and McCann. It was good day ladies and gentlemen.
Final: Yankees 7 - White Sox 4
