YANKS SWEEP REDS & IT'S A WALK OFF!
On a day when the Yankees really needed to get a winning streak going, and a chance to sweep the Reds, they reached back believed in themselves as a club, became unified and on a tied 2-2 game... something big actually happened.
Brian McCann singled home Jacoby Ellsbury in the bottom of the 9th to win it today! As Billy Zane shouted in Zoolander... "It's a walk-off!" Oh, that it was... but let me start at the beginning...
It was a gorgeous day in the Bronx and there was hope. The second half is here and Yankee fans can feel the pressure. They want their team to succeed, for the Bronx, for Jeter.
Hiroki Kuroda pitched today. He went 6.2 innings, gave up 3 hits and 1 run. The other run was given up by Dellin Betances.
The Yankees scored their 2 like this. In the 5th, Derek Jeter singled knocking in Kelly Johnson. Then, right after that, Jacoby Ellsbury singled home Brett Gardner. Sounds good right? Well, kind of. The part of the story that needs to be reported, but will be ignored because the Yankees won today is this; The Yankees left 13 men on base today. THIRTEEN. Not good. That's their biggest problem, ducks on the pond. But we'll deal with that another day. Here's the good part...
With McCann coming up, he singled home Jacoby Ellsbury after Ellsbury reached first, stole second and then make it to third on a wild pitch. Then... that single for McCann:? It was a bloop... it doesn't matter though. A win is a win.
Yankees win... THHEEEE YAAAANNNNKKEEEESSS WIIINNNN!
Nice job... great wins this weekend... go Yanks!
Final: Yankees 3 - Reds 2
