TAKING THE WIN ANY WAY WE CAN GET IT
Masahiro Tanaka on the mound can usually mean the Yankees get a win. Lately though, and after a 5 game losing streak, no one can be sure.
Tanaka was great tonight though and thank God. 7 innings, giving up 9 hits and 4 runs. The best part, he kept the Yankees in the game so we could score a few ourselves. We were able to beat up on Phil Hughes a bit tonight.
2 hits each tonight for Mark Teixeira, Ichiro Suzuki and newly called up Zelous Wheeler. 3 RBIs tonight by Carlos Beltran. In fact, the run scoring went like this:
In the 5th inning, Beltran hit a 3 run homer. Shortly after that, Wheeler cranked one out. It was a solo shot. In the 7th, Brendan Ryan doubled knocking in Ichiro. Then, Brett Gardner singled knocking in 1. That was quickly followed by Derek Jeter grounding into a force, and in the process... Ryan scored.
The Yankees made things happen tonight, with pitching and with their bats. They even made a smart move bringing up Wheeler. Sadly, they designated Dean Anna for assignment, and I do NOT like that move for a few reasons, but the biggest one is this; energy. Anna was a spark plug while he was up with the Yanks. No, he didn't dominate and wasn't as hot as a Yangervis Solarte early on, but he had a youthful energy that I appreciated. He made it. He knew he finally made the big club and wanted to shine. I root for the underdog... and I rooted for Anna. Now, with Wheeler up, I will root for him as well. Bottom line, the Yankees have a bunch of veterans that aren't doing their jobs... I like the energy of youth sometimes... it makes it exciting. It can even bring you wins.
Big win today. Let's keep going Yanks!
Final: Yankees 7 - Twins 4
