MLB & THE HOME RUN DERBY BRACKETS

(In Photo: Last year's champ, Yoenis Cespedes)
I should preface this by saying that I love the All Star Break. The voting, the anticipation, the excitement. It's like Christmas to me! The only baseball event that makes me happier is the World Baseball Classic. Okay, and a Yankees world series win, but that's besides the point.

This year, the rules for the Home Run Derby have changed a little bit. It's a bracket format, and I'm really excited by it.

Okay so here is how it works:

In the first round all ten players go into the first round. The players get seven outs, instead of the normal ten. The two players from each team with the fewest homers are eliminated. But the player on each team with the most homers gets a bye. What does that mean? It means they automatically advance to the third round. So they get a nice rest between rounds.

In the second round, the two players from each team face off for the second spot in round three. Again, seven outs are given. The winner of the second round, and the first round face off in the third round for the chance to play in the finals. There a player from the NL and AL fight for the chance to become Home Run King.

In the event of a tie, there will be a swing off. Each player gets three outs to hit as many homers as they can.

This years Derby captains are Jose Bautista for the AL, and Troy Tulowitzki for the NL. Of course the most important part to me is the fact that the Home Run Derby is a charity event. They will raise money for the RBI program, the Boys and Girls club, as well as charities chosen by the team captains.

I personally cannot wait to see what the teams will look like on both sides. And I hope for a complete, knock out, slugfest! If only for the sake of the charities.
