NOVA'S SUPER & THE YANKEES WIN

The Yankees won 3 out of 4 against the Boston Red Sox. It's pretty terrific, especially when you think about where they have been and what they need to do this season to prove that last year was just "NOT" what the New York Yankees are about.  They need to make a statement this season. That is why they spent big. That is why they need to beat the Red Sox whenever possible. That is why they need to win each series this season.  You win each series... you make the playoffs.

Ivan Nova looked real good, and there was no foreign substance on his hand.  7.1 innings of work.  He allowed 8 hits and just 2 runs.  The bullpen did their job, holding the Sox down. Shawn Kelley got his third save. David Ortiz was 0-4.  He should have had Keenan Thompson replace him, he's a helluva lot funnier and probably better at this point.

Too bad Ortiz didn't realize SNL was mocking him for his ridiculousness all these years. That bit was not a compliment, despite what he might think.

The Yankees scored 3 last night. Carlos Beltran hit a 2 run homer in the 3rd inning. In the 4th, the Yankees challenged a force play and won. McCann scored on a ground out by Francisco Cervelli.

That got the Red Sox pissed. John Farrell was on fire. And so, there were some terrific photographs of him all over the Internet this morning.  I had to share one, they are epic.

And speaking of Cervelli, he left last night's game with a leg injury. That moved everyone around, including Beltran to first base and Ichiro to right field.  It was on that force out play that he got hurt.

Oh, and Derek Jeter sat.  I questioned that.  In a big series against the Sox, I would have loved to have seen him in there.  But I get it, it is only April 14th.  That being said, I wish he was in.

Final: Yankees 3 - Red Sox 2.
