Derek Jeter struck out with Jacoby Ellsbury on second base tonight. We had a chance to tie it, maybe even take the lead, but the Captain struck out. In the 8th, Brian McCann, Mark Teixeira and Alfonso Soriano all struck out after Carlos Beltran hit a double. They never knocked him in. Beltran was sitting there thinking, "Um... hello!"
Does Jeter suck? McCann? Are they "finished?" Of course not. But CC Sabathia IS according to a ton of Yankee fans because he "stunk up the joint" on Opening Day, right? Now you see my point... this is baseball. Sure, there are percentages and odds. Sure, some guys are better than others, but the sport is amazing for this reason... you just don't know what will happen.
The Yankees don't look too good so far this year, but it will change. You know what I see? I see a team that is working through the growing pains of playing together. We have new players. Sure, they had an entire Spring Training to play together, but you all know that didn't happen. You all know that there were "tryouts" and position filling this past spring and the team that's on the field the last 2 games is not the same team that played together all Spring. It's clear, they need a rhythm, and I'm willing to give them a few days to work out the kinks.
There were a few highlights. Tonight the Yanks scored on a double play ground out by Yangervis Solarte. McCann was 2 for 4. Brian Roberts was 3-4.
The only other highlight was Hiroki Kuroda. Sure, he got the loss, but I liked what I saw from him tonight. He last 6, giving up 3 hits and 2 runs. These were really the only highlights for the Yankees tonight. That and me becoming mildly frustrated and tweeting this, only to be told that one of our BYB readers "literally LOL'd." at my tweet. I love that.
@BleednYankeeBlu I literally lol'd at this. 😂

That makes me happy.Look, if you're looking for me to trash the Yankees, don't come to BYB, not this week. If you want me to tell you that we suck, I won't do that. We don't. This is a long season. I've seen teams start in the cellar and make the playoffs. I'm not getting into a debate with any of you over who sucks and who doesn't. I will tell you this... Yankee brass gave us a competitive team this season. We can't complain and they can't swing their bats for them and they sure as hell can't strikeout 18 because our pitchers are suddenly keeping the ball up in the zone. What we can do, collectively, is root and root hard for our Yankees.
The wins will come and believe me, no one is more competitive than me. But I'm in my 40s now, and every single bad pitch doesn't piss me off as much anymore. The Yankees WILL win, because we believe, but don't give up now. Give Houston these 2... I have faith the Yanks will turn it around...
Who's with me?
Final tonight: Astros 3 - Yankees 1
Finally, I leave you with this...
