THE YANKEES COULD LOSE OUT ON UBALDO JIMENEZ

Look, I am of the belief that you stockpile arms, you can figure out the rest later.  Mike O'Hara, a writer of BYB believes you don't go for used arms... you go for the best. (Read EXPENSIVE USED ARMS! COME ON DOWN!... it's a great perspective.)  The point is, we're writers with different opinons. We're not the Yankees though. The Yankees have their own plan... I think.

A little over a week ago, it was floated that Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe was hearing the Yanks could end up with Ubaldo Jimenez as well as Masahiro Tanaka.  I'm fine with that. I like Jimenez.  I actually read the same story on the Latino Post, read HERE citing Cafardo. They wrote: "The New York Yankees are reportedly the frontrunner to get free agent hurler Ubaldo Jimenez, regardless of whether or not they win the bidding war for Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka, a source close to the situation reported earlier this week."

Frontrunners? Not exactly. It was merely a conversation Cafardo had with "GM sources". Cafardo actually wrote: "A few GMs I spoke with recently feel the Yankees may wind up with Jimenez, even if they land Masahiro Tanaka..." That's all he wrote. Frontrunners is a stretch. Plus, it doesn't tell the truth.  I can't get on board with that. We said "eyeing" in our analysis here at BYB, read HERE, and that's realistic... that's why you come to us.

You also come to us for updates, and here is one... the Toronto Blue Jays are looking at Ubaldo Jimenez and one has to wonder if the Yankees are just staying still until they know what will happen to Alex Rodriguez and counting their money for their "big splash wish" which will be Tanaka.

According Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, "...The Jays are a leading candidate to sign either Santana or Jimenez; they have two protected first-round picks, Nos. 9 and 11, and would sacrifice only a second-rounder and the accompanying pool money for one of those free-agent right-handers." Santana is Ervin Santana just to give you some context on that quote.

So, for all of you looking at that "Yankees / Jimenez" marriage, we just don't have that type of news yet, but we might. Why? Because it's Hot Stove season and there is a ton of stuff floating around.

Stay tuned...
