So why is this happening? According to the Star Ledger: "Looking to clear space on their 40-man roster, the Yankees have designated outfielder Vernon Wells for assignment, ESPN reported. 'Thank you Yankees for opportunity to be part of such a storied franchise,' Wells said on Twitter on Friday afternoon."
So a space on the 40 man roster is now vacant... what comes next?
