BELTRAN UNDERSTANDS PRIDE OF THE PINSTRIPES

Carlos Beltran gets it.  Robinson Cano didn't.  Now I know, the deal for Cano was a monster deal and sometimes your mind wanders with thoughts of stability and security and millions of dollars for your future. I get what Cano was doing, I just disagree, that's it.

Beltran understands the pride of the pinstripes and he isn't even officially here yet.  This will be a short post, because it's a short nugget... but it's a powerful nugget.  Sit down for this....

Carlos Beltran turned down more money from an offer of the Diamondbacks to instead sign with  the New York Yankees.

According to Nick Piecoro of AZ Central, "According to sources, the Diamondbacks made a strong, under-the-radar push to sign free-agent Carlos Beltran... the Diamondbacks’ offer for Beltran was for three years and more than $45 million. It’s possible the Diamondbacks were the team that reportedly had offered him $48 million over three years."

The Yankees signed him for 3 years and $45 million.

Do I need to say much more? Do you get it? There's a history in New York.  There's a fan presence, a passion, a love so great, it's been passed on since 1923.  Don't believe that? Read THE MAN THAT MADE ME A YANKEE FAN: THE FULL STORY Talk to your parents, your cousins, your friends who became Yankee fans because their family did.  They watched them take the field for many, many years. And then, when they saw Mickey Mantle crush home runs, or they saw Derek Jeter being anointed Mr. November... they knew right then and there just how important this franchise is.

It's the New York Yankees... it's NOT the Diamondbacks.  It's definitely NOT the Seattle Mariners.

Carlos Beltran gets it... and he's already in my good graces.

Great nugget by Nick Piecoro. Great reporting.  Thank you.
