So, I found the piece by Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News the other day peculiar. I mean, we have a Yankee club that's old. We the fans, they, the media, have been complaining about how we need to "young-up" the club (I just made up a word), but then the Daily News tries to tell us that the Yankees are looking at 36 year old Carlos Beltran. ARE WE REALLY, or is this just a floated story to get eyeballs because there is absolutely nothing going on in Yankeeland. I don't know. The Daily News writes:
"According to multiple sources, the Yankees could be in the market for an outfielder this winter as they look to add some pop to a lineup that finished next-to-last in the American League in home runs and 10th in runs scored.
Beltran would fit the bill, having averaged 28 homers during his past two seasons in St. Louis and 24 per year since making his full-time debut in 1999.
A source familiar with Beltran’s thinking said the 36-year-old — he’ll turn 37 in April — would be interested in a potential move to the Bronx, where he could step in as the primary right fielder while getting some turns as the designated hitter to keep his body fresh."
Now,
BYB had vowed a while back that if there wasn't a story, we weren't
going to make it up. I mean sure, we would give opinion and sure, we'd
report news, but we were not going to give every little nugget about
every little thing that happens. ALL THAT DOES IS ANNOY YOU! Sure, we're
bloggers, but I'd like to think we have alittle journalist integrity
and grit about us.
Here's what I think: We have 34 year old Vernon Wells, 39 year old Ichiro Suzuki, 37 year old Alfonso Soriano and 30 year old Brett Gardner. Where are we going to put 36 year old Carlos Beltran?

Carlos Beltran may be the most productive post-season player out there, but it means nothing if the Yankees don't make the playoffs. The Yankees are home right now. The Cardinals, the Red Sox, the Dodgers and the Tigers are not. Could they get there with Beltran? Sure... maybe, but I guess we won't truly know until we sign the guy. I mean, we did have plenty of talent this season and we couldn't get there. True, there were injuries, but 1 man does not make a playoff run. 25 do. Beltran could help, but so could anyone.
So, I ask you... is this smart? Would we try and flip Vernon Wells or make him a DH to make room for Beltran? Do you platoon Ichiro and Beltran in right field? I don't get the story and don't know why the
Yankees would be looking at this guy all these years later, do you? I mean, as the
News put it, the Yankees have looked at this guy twice before... isn't it just
alittle too late at this point?
So let's have some fun. Let's vote on it. Would you sign Carlos Beltran? Yes or No. We want you to vote here on BYB and we'll
write about it the results are the vote is complete.
So tell us what you think... there isn't much more going on in Yankeeland anyway...
