YANKEES SWEEP THE CHISOX & CONTINUE THEIR PLAYOFF RUN!

I have been standing on my soapbox telling people not to give up. We all have here at Bleeding Yankee Blue. The Yankees can still make a run for playoffs. It will be by the skin of our teeth, but they can make it!

CC Sabathia was on the mound last night and looked every bit the ace we all know he is capable of being. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up only one run in the first. This has been the longest outing from CC since August 7th.

Robinson Cano got things started in the first with a solo homer. Lyle Overbay, Brett Gardner, and Alfonso Soriano also helped bring in runs. The team chemistry is up, and they are playing with a mission. They sure didn't make it easy for Erik Johnson in his major league debut.

With the Yankees leading 6 - 1 in the 8th, David Robertson came in to relieve CC, and had a very shaky outing. He brought four guys in to score, before a pitching change that brought Mariano Rivera in for a four out save.

The ninth inning was an edge of your seat moment, but Mo came out and got his 41st save of the season.

Final: Yankees 6 - White Sox 5

This is just the momentum we needed to carry us into the weekend. We will need to keep the pace against the Red Sox, to stay the course for the playoffs!

Oh, and another interesting factoid: September 4th was the anniversary of Jorge Posada's major league debut. You all know how much we love the Posada's here at BYB. I couldn't let that go by. Like Jorge would say, the Yankees need to keep grinding it to make it to October... and they will!
