YANKEE 'PEN IMPLOSION!

You can't make this up.  It's pathetic when you think about it actually.  How in the world do the Yankees lead, only to lose?  I mean, the game was in the bag... and then the bullpen comes in to relieve Andy Pettitte and everything falls apart?  What has happened to my Yankees?

Look.  The Yankees have a problem.  If you play a top team with good hitters, you need top pitchers to compete against them.  Phil Hughes? Seriously? Andy Pettitte pitches 6 innings, allowed 5 hits and only 3 runs and suddenly, there was relief... or lack there of in Phil Hughes.

0.1 innings pitched. ZERO POINT ONE INNINGS! He gave up 3 hits and 4 runs. Boone Logan...0.1 innings... ZERO POINT ONE INNINGS! He gave up 2 hits and 1 run.  Preston Claiborne... 0.2 innings and he gave up 3 hits on 3 runs.  It's stuff like that that makes teams go home for the winter very quickly.  We lost the lead tonight, we lost the game tonight and we look like idiots plain and simple!  I'm not sure what's worse, the pitching tonight or Joe Girardi just not knowing who to go to!

The Yankee runs, for the moment they were leading went like this: Alfonso Soriano homered... it was a 2 run homer. In the second, Eduardo Nunez tripled knocking in Vernon Wells. Chris Stewart then sacrificed Nunez home. In the 4th, Brett Gardner tripled and 2 runs scored. In the 5th, Wells hit in Robinson Cano. Then Mark Reynolds knocked in Wells.   The Red Sox then capitalized on lousy relief pitching.  My question... has our 'pen been exposed and what happens now? Put it this way, if the starters aren't strong... and the relief isn't strong.... do we have a shot in hell?  I doubt it. Why you ask? Well, because pitching wins ball games... and we don't seem to have it.

Final: Red Sox 12 - Yankees 8

Think about this... tonight was a big problem.  I don't want to limp into the playoffs... I want to go in strong, but that won't happen if we continue to pitch like we did tonight.  It's sad really... we're better than that.
