WHAT? US WORRY?
When big games go bad, I get pissed. Obviously, if you read A DUMB GIRARDI GAMBLE JUST COST THE YANKS THE PLAYOFFS, you know what I was feeling yesterday. We don't try and sugar coat it here at Bleeding Yankee Blue. We also believe... and we always will. We're Yankee fans after all. I've been believing in my Yankees since the 70's. I believed through the Mattingly years and I believed in the late 90's. I keep believing... and I'll never stop. You're probably the same way. Bottom line... even though I was pissed about yesterday, I was front and center today, wearing my Bleeding Yankee Blue shirt on a couch in a hotel in Pennsylvania, watching and rooting like it was a must win game. I was in Phillies territory, in a bar, quietly watching my Yankees in the time I had alotted. I wasn't easy, but then again, the Phillies suck, so it worked out nicely. There was no razzing, just watching, and me sipping a Blue Moon. An older gentleman ever asked me where I got my BYB shirt. I told him it's on the website. He thanked me. Little did he know I ran the operation, but hey, here's to you Stan! Now that I have your email, I'll be sure and fill you in! Anyway, the point is, Yankee fans never truly give up... we just let our frustration out and we move on to the next game. I'm glad I'm a believer, because today was a game to believe in!
The Yankees won today. It wasn't just a win, it was a romp, and after yesterday's game, we can all sigh in relief...it's going to be OK, isn't it?
Rain screws up everything, but if you look at the box score, you assume Phil Hughes must have sucked or gotten hurt after he went 1.1 innings.
After the rain delay, our buddy David Huff came in and went 5.2 innings giving up 5 hits and 1 run. I'm digging this guy... he knows his role.
The Yankees dominated hitting-wise...
In the first, Derek Jeter singled in Brett Gardner. In the 4th, Mark Reynolds knocked in a run. Then Romine knocked in 2. Gardy then doubled and Reynolds scored. Then, Jeet singled and Austin Romine scored. The Alfonso Soriano doubled and knocked in yet another run.
It wasn't over yet. Next Vernon Wells reached on a force attempt... in the process, both Gardy and Jeter scored.
A wacky day of run scoring and excitment... just the way Yankee fans love it.
Final: Yankees 9 - White Sox 1
The question is now... can we keep it up?
