THE FALL OF GOLIATH
The Yankees can't get a break. They Yankees can't hit, they can't score and they don't even have an ace in CC Sabathia anymore. Every talent they have has left them. They are a list of talented players with no goal. I don't know when it happened, but it happened... and it's a damn shame.
Look, the other day I wrote YANKEE FAN REVOLT: THEY SOLD US A BILL OF GOODS. Why? Because the frustration is enormous. When the Yankees lose, it sets the tone for my next day, and yours too. I find myself angrier, I have less patience... and I long for a win. The Yankees club, on paper, has the talent to take us to another level. Here's the problem; they are just not doing it. Paper champions are nothing. Champions on paper are nothing. Winners find ways to win no matter what. Winners are warriors. They see the end game and they see themselves on the top of the mountain. The Yankees are clinging to a tree branch half way up. And to make matters worse... they know it and they don't believe they can fix it. Confidence is key... and they have none, that's the bottom line.
Last night's 7-2 loss was expected. There, I said it. I didn't watch the game having too much faith. I never thought Curtis Granderson would change anything last night sadly. In fact, he went 0-4... and I knew he would before any pitch was thrown.
CC Sabathia gave up 11 hits and 5 runs. Now, in a "normal" season, you chalk that up as a bad outing and the Yankees come back and win... it's a no brainer, but not this year. CC looks out of place, he looks lost... he has no confidence.... there's that word again... confidence. Chalk it up as a bad season for CC, but wonder if that "Ace" mentality will ever return.
The Yankees runs went simply like this: Eduardo Nunez doubled in Ichiro Suzuki. Then, CC Sabathia grounded out, but in the process, Nunez scored. Hey, give CC credit for trying to get the runs he would need, but CC is an American League pitcher, not a hitter and his team should have been doing that for him.
Final: Padres 7 - Yankees 2
The Yankees are pathetic. We need a meeting. We need a shakeup. We need management to actually decide to make a change and not worry about finances any longer. We need Hank Steinbrenner to come out of his cage and roar. We need Derek Jeter to lead.
We need Jorge Posada to visit and we need to remember what the pinstripes truly mean, because I don't know about you, but when the playoffs come, and the Yankees DON'T make it... I won't be watching... my season will be over.
