YANKEE ROUT IN KANSAS CITY
5 RBIs by Lyle Overbay in this win last night. Right now the Boston Red Sox are wondering why they ever decided to let Overbay walk.
The hitting was solid... even for a bunch of old misfits. It's clear the Yankees are gelling right now with no end in site. Even Ichiro Suzuki had a home run last night... 2 RBIs and a 3-5 game.
In fact, it went like this: Ichiro homered in the second and knocked in 2. Then shortly after Lyle Overbay did the same thing. In the 4th inning Lyle Overbay doubled scoring Jayson Nix. in the 6th, Overbay doubled again knocking in another run and then Chris Nelson singled, knocking in Overbay.
Brett Gardner then tripled and knocked in Nelson. That was followed by a Robinson Cano single knocking in Gardner. Again... that was all in the 6th.
In the 9th, it was Overbay again knocking in yet another run. 11 runs for the Bombers, 6 for Kansas City.
Phil Hughes got the win pitching 5.2 innings, allowing 7 hits and giving up 2 runs. He gave up 2 homers in this one, but this time it didn't burn him. Shawn Kelley and Boone Logan didn't give up a run last night in relief.
Final: Yankees 11 - Royals 6.
