GIVING BACK THE STEINBRENNER WAY

Last week, New York City, Long Island, New Jersey and the surrounding areas got slammed with what is now being called the storm of the century. The devastation that Sandy left in her wake is heart breaking. There are still people without power and to make matters worse, people lost their lives, many lost their homes and the cold air is starting to come in. It's a horrible situation.
I’m a native New Yorker. I speak with an accent that is identifiable anywhere I go. I have always lived in this city and will love it until the end. So when I say that the pictures of the aftermath shattered me, it is probably a gross understatement.

Following Hurricane Sandy, the New York Yankees donated $500,000 to the Red Cross Foundation for relief funds, read HERE.  Hank Steinbrenner saw the images and new that the Steinbrenners would then do what Hank's father George would have done.
Hank Steinbrenner is quoted as saying: "This is what drove my father to assist others. When Hurricane Andrew struck, he would load up a truck with aids for the town of Homestead, Floirda which was hit pretty badly.”  With that, the Yankees organization sprang into action, but it didn't stop there. More on that in a moment.
In September, I had the extreme honor and pleasure of interviewing Ray Negron. Ray too grew up in this city. He had recently published a book titled “Yankees Miracles" and our interview with him is titled "YANKEE MIRACLES" EXCLUSIVE: RAY NEGRON. The book is an incredible account of how Ray came to be the Yankees bat boy and of his interaction with Yankees legends, as well as The Boss himself.  It's inspirational and it's about giving back and helping those in need.

So that's why November is so special here at Bleeding Yankee Blue in the wake of this tragedy. During the month of November, all sale proceeds from “Yankees Miracles” will go to the Red Cross to help those in the New Jersey and Long Island areas. These areas were hit the hardest during this storm. There are still people without power on the Island and everyone is hoping that the November 13th date they were given for the restoration of power will be pushed up sooner.

So do your part, buy "Yankee Miracles" and that money will go to help the victims of this tragedy.  Bleeding Yankee Blue is not receiving any compensation for this effort, we are here to serve and when Ray came to us and asked to help get the word out, we were happy to do our part.

You can click this YANKEE MIRACLES link and it goes directly to the Amazon site. If you choose to purchase from Barnes and Noble instead, click YANKEE MIRACLES here.

I loved reading “Yankees Miracles.” I love what it represents and the message it sends. Miracles are all around us. And isn’t giving to those who are in need a miracle in itself?  Take a moment... help!
