BRANDON LAIRD IS GONE

Well, that was fast.  Bleeding Yankee Blue just wrote about the recent resigning of Steve Pearce, and with that resigning, the Yankees needed to make a move, so they Designated Brandon Laird for assignment.  Read HERE.  That, in turn aggravated some of us at BYB, namely Jeana Bellezza, who wrote a piece titled HELLO PEARCE, GOODBYE LAIRD where she bought up some good points.

"When it comes to our farm system, I am very protective though. I already watched Jesus Montero leave and it left a bittersweet taste in my mouth so I don’t want to see the same thing happen here without any sort of payoff. Laird is valuable somewhere, even if it isn’t here."

Look, the way Yankee fans feel, we hate when we hear about how great our youth is, but the Yanks end up sending them off for older talent any way...so what's the point of hyping these kids up? We only become disappointed when the leave.  That's the point Jeana was making.  She also wrote this: "The life of a minor league infield prospect is not an easy one with Cano, Jeter, Tex, and ARod standing in the way and realistically, the only playing time on the big stage would come in a bench role or as a fill-in during an injury."  In the end, she's right, if there's no room, what's a guy like Laird to do with the Yankees? As a ballplayer, you don't try to be successful in the minors your entire career, it doesn't work that way. You fight for a stop on a big team and you hope to stay there.
But back to Laird for a moment... The Houston Chronicle wrote HERE that the Houston Astros have claimed Laird off waivers. So, I guess at the end of the day all we can do is wave goodbye to Laird and wish him the best of luck. He will be missed.
