SETBACK FOR GARDNER IS CAUSE FOR CONCERN

In what seems to be the longest case of elbow soreness, Brett Gardner had a setback... Again! Read HERE.

Yesterday, Jack Curry tweeted that Joe Girardi stated that Gardner had experienced elbow soreness and would not play in the rehab game. This is the third time since landing on the DL in April that this has happened.Check out Curry's Tweet below:

Look, I want to be hopeful that this is just soreness. I mean, clearly he is being taken care of by the best doctors, right? I hope so at least. But frankly, I am worried. How is it possible that he is able to complete rehab fine and then experiences soreness when he faces live pitches?

Okay, so what does this mean for the Yankees? Clearly, the Yankees have done fine without him. They are in first place with the best record in the league right now and are 21 games over .500. Really, what I miss most about Gardner is watching him speed around the bases. Having him on base is always a huge advantage for us and let's face it, we can hit the long ball all day long, but sooner or later manufacturing runs is needed too.  I mean, that's baseball.

With the trade deadline approaching, I know there has been a lot of speculation among fans over whether or not Brian Cashman would move to fill that spot. Well, Cashman has already said that if we can’t get Gardner back this season there is no need to go out and do something. I have to say I agree with him. I’m sure that forty-year-old Raul Ibanez was not expected to be an everyday player but he, and Andruw Jones, have been doing a great job taking over at left field.

Joe Bick, Gardner’s agent has stated that there is a chance that he would not play again this season. Read HERE. Both Bick and Girardi have used words like “baffling” and “puzzling” to describe this situation. Read HERE. That just doesn’t bode well. He is being sent to have another MRI today to look for something that may have been missed. Don’t know how long this latest set back will be but I sincerely hope to be seeing Gardner healthy and back in the Bronx soon.
