FREDDY GARCIA + PAIR OF TWO-RUN HR'S = YANKEES WIN

Make it two solid starts in a row for Yankees starting pitcher Freddy Garcia.  In another warm summer afternoon in the Bronx, Garcia gave the Yankees five innings of work, holding the LA Angels to 3 runs, to earn his 4th win of the season.  And behind a pair of two-run homers, the Yankees beat the LA Angels 5-3.  Garcia wasn' spectacular but then again, he's our 5th starter, not the ace of the staff.  After quickly surrendering 2 runs in the top of the 1st, Garcia settled down and just allowed one more run in 4 innings of work.  Last season Garcia seemed to get better as the season progressed and it appears the same thing is happening in 2012.  In his last three starts Garcia is 2-0 with a 3.18 ERA.  Again, all we can ask of Garcia is to give us innings and just keep his team in the game, just like he did today.  Garcia's winning line this afternoon: 5 IP -- 5 Hits -- 3 Runs -- 5 BB's -- 4K's

After Garcia left after the 5th inning the Yankees bullpen took over and completely shut down the Angels in the final 4 innings.  Cody Eppley pitched  the 6th and 7th innings only giving up 1 hit and then it was Drob-to-RaSo time.  David Robertson pitched the 8th striking out two and turned it over to Rafael Soriano in the 9th.  All RaSo did was shut down the top of the Angels order 1-2-3 which included striking out a red hot Mike Trout and Albert Pujols, who was 5-5 career vs Soriano.  Soriano earned his 22nd Save of the 2012 season.

Once again, the bronx Bombers lived up to their name smacking a pair of two-run homers to lead the Yankees to their 54th win of the year.  After the Angels put up a two spot in the top of the first, the Yankees came right back to tie up things in the bottom half of the inning.  Derek Jeter led off the bottom of the 1st with a single and was still standing on first with two outs when  Robinson Cano walked up to the plate.  Cano proceeded to crack his 21st home run of the season and tie the game at 2.  And just two innings later Curtis Granderson matched Cano's efforts with his own 2-run-jack (his 24th of the season) to give the Yanks a 4-2 lead and they never looked back.  Cano added an RBI single in the 6th that gave the Yankees a 5-3 lead and that's how it stayed.  The Yankees have won the first two of this three game series vs the Angels and will send Ivan Nova to the 'hill tomorrow afternoon looking for the sweep.
