IS THERE A POSITIVE IN THE JOBA MESS?

I ripped Joba Chamberlain good for a bad decision to jump on a trampoline. Read WHY JOBA CHAMBERLAIN NEEDS TOUGH LOVE. It was harsh, it's a risk and it was stupid, but now we need to move forward. LoHud had a different take on all of this stuff and it's the positive outlook, not the negative. Props to Chad Jennings. You can read him HERE.

Here's what Jennings said about the Joba Soap Opera:

"...it seems we now have an idea of the best-case scenario. Yesterday Chamberlain told Brian Cashman that he’s hoping to be on a mound by July.

“That’s what he told me the doctors were telling him,” Cashman said....In theory, that means this season is not completely ruled out. But all of this is theoretical at this point. There’s not nearly enough information to know how quickly or how completely Chamberlain will heal. For now, the risk of infection is a signficant concern, but if the doctors are willing to let him out of the hospital, that would be a good sign."

Look, it is true, if you focus on the positive now and maybe Joba grows up after this nasty situation, maybe he returns to the Yankees and maybe, just maybe he'll learn the right way to fall into place as a New York Yankee. There is the other side of this coin though and it has to do with patience. How much more patience will the Yankees have in this guy who, much like Phil Hughes, just can't seem to get on track? There's always something. Some will blame the Yankees for their handling of these kids, I'm not going there right now, but I will suggest an awful lot of bad luck with Joba and Phil. It's nuts.Joba just needs support right now from the Yankees and from the fans. We've beat him up hard and we will the best of the weekend. The best approach now though is for Joba Chamberlain to just get better, focus and get back on track. If he does and there's positive progress... and maybe he matures through this recovery, the Yankees may be inclined to hold onto him and try again. But if things turn sour and the recovery is hard, who knows... in 3 years we may see a broken down Joba Chamberlain trying to make the major league roster on the Baltimore Orioles or something. Bottom line though, I'm through being nasty, Joba knows by now he needs to take his lumps this weekend and he knows he deserves it. But after that, it's go time and the healing needs to start... I wish Joba well, otherwise the hope and dreams of this kid from Nebraska is just gonna be a whole lot of nothing...stay tuned.
