DEAR JOHNNY...DROP YOUR PRICE OR FIRE YOUR AGENT

Scott Boras ticks me off. He’s got a guy that clearly wants to come back to the New York Yankees, but he’s managed to once again quote a price that’s way too high for a 37+ guy who will only hit a couple dozen home runs for a team and that's if he's in the lineup every day. Come on Johnny, shake it up alittle... tell your agent he blew it and get a set and speak for yourself.

Johnny Damon spoke to Jon Heyman at CBS Sports about a few things recently. Read HERE. One had to do with his 3000th hit milestone and the other was about the New York Yankees and why his phone hasn't rung. Here's a quote from Johnny Bravo himself:

“I think it’s a perfect fit...But for some reason you have the year I had, especially with a team that has trouble scoring, and you can’t even get a call to continue playing.”

Now look, it has been my opinion for weeks that $5 million for a DH is too high. Johnny, you can still hit and still run, but your agent is in your ear telling you you're worth more than you really are...let's be totally honest here. I love you, New York loves you, but at $5 million bucks...we don't love you.

Sure, Johnny Damon can run, and Johnny can play the field as well, but let’s face facts… if $5 million was reasonable, Damon would have already been signed somewhere….but he’s not signed and now he’s talking about his love for the New York Yankees, out of desperation.

I have no hate for Johnny Damon, I love the guy, I want him back… you want him back, ya’ll voted in our DH poll and chose Damon over many. Read WHY YOU WANT JOHNNY BRAVO HOME IN THE BRONX. The point is, Damon needs to realize that Scott Boras is blowing smoke. Damon needs to take a deep breath, dig deep and come out with a very important statement, whether it’s to Cashman privately or to the media… “I’ll take $2 million and I want to come to the Yankees.” That not only proves to me he’s serious, it proves he doesn't care about the money, he cares about winning and at this point in his career, he just needs to play... the money should be secondary. If he did that, he can probably sign his contract on the spot. The Yankees have little money, they’ve stated it several times and trading AJ Burnett didn't skim much off the top. Clearly they aren’t paying Damon $5 million. Hell, Damon better hurry too, word on the street is Raul Ibanez is the guy the Yankees really want and to be honest, he'd be a good fit in the Bronx. Read HERE. True, some would argue Raul's very 2006… not 2012. That being said, if the price is right and if you compare numbers between Ibanez and Damon, there's a better argument that could be made for Ibanez and price is a big part of it. Quite simply, my take is, if Ibanez gets signed, yet another Boras client who overshot his price will be sitting there all alone in 2012… holding the check.

Come on Johnny… be smart about this.
