YANKEE RUMORS & BYB: PART 7

Yoennis Cespedes: Jeff Passan has a great piece about the Cuban defector Cespedes and at this moment the Yankees are very very interested in seeing this guy and had scouts attend an open workout Friday in the Dominican Republic. Cespedes is an outfielder with decent speed. That was followed up with a private workout with the Yankees yesterday. Passan says a source believes Yoennis is a "legitimate center fielder with power, so I understand why they think they can get $30 million. They might get more.” Read Passan's full piece HERE.Johnny Damon: Damon's a free agent and there's always room for another bat in the Yankees lineup. I've mentioned Hideki Matsui recently in WHY HIDEKI MATSUI? WHY NOT? as a perfect alternative to the DH slot for the Yankees, but I have a cheaper idea and another fan favorite...Johnny Bravo. Damon may be old, but for the Rays last year, he really did well, hitting .261, having 16 home runs and 19 steals. Damon can still hit the crap out of the ball and that right field porch at Yankee Stadium is still considered Damon's Deck. Just a thought, plus, I can't see Damon being too expensive, can you?Roy Oswalt: Brian Cashman has touched base with Roy Oswalt's agent and we're off to the races. But, don't think the Yankees are going to sign Oswalt to some multi-year deal like Oswalt wants. Roy's got a bad back and the Yankees know it, so they will be careful with this one. Read HERE. Personally, I don't see the Yankees pursuing Oswalt unless it's a 1 year deal and he's cheap. Tell me, at this moment, do you want Freddy Garcia returning to the Bronx or Roy Oswalt with a potentially cranky back... see what I mean?Edwin Jackson: The Yankees and Jackson's agent have started talks. George King wrote about it HERE. King writes: "He is 60-60 with a 4.46 ERA in 203 big league games (173 starts) and went a combined 12-9 with a 3.79 ERA this past season for the White Sox and World Series champion Cardinals." Again... Freddy Garcia, where are you? Edwin Jackson is a good pitcher but so is someone like Freddy in this situation. I may even suggest Garcia may be better merely because he's already had a taste of New York and succeeded. Cashman will for sure be careful with this one. If Jackson does sign with the Yankees expect a low contract for sure.

As names are mentioned in Yankee Rumors, BYB will bring them to you, for sure.
