WHY NOVA WAS SUPER

Ivan Nova reads Bleeding Yankee Blue. I know that because he was ticked off that I wrote this in my last post titled: WHY IT WAS SWISHALICIOUS...

"Great news for CC Monster who received his 9th victory. He wasn't stellar, but he grinded it out again. A win's a win, but I want to see him in CC form, not Ivan Nova form. I'd really love to see him wipe up the competition next game."

Wow. Who was that guy tonight? That was Ivan Nova? He really pitched great and Ivan, I apologize, you handled a beautiful game tonight, confidence and all. 8 innings, 4 hits 1 run with 7 strikeouts. God bless you, maybe you've got something there.

I was impressed with Nova, but I was impressed with everyone tonight. Martin handled Nova well too you know, you can't give it all to Nova, but overall, a really great win for the Yankees.

The first inning was great, Swisher, Tex and Alex all single and then Cano doubles and suddenly a few more singles and the score is 4-0 at the end of the 1st. Nice and easy; I always preach it, but I love when I see it.

I loved the way Teixeira handled Jay Bruce's hard grounder to first at the bottom of the first inning. That is why Tex is there, a Gold glover and a just incredible play. I don't want to take anything away from Posada but you know he couldn't do that at first base.(Photo: Getty)
I was disappointed in Boone Logan tonight. Again with this guy, he's a lefty specialist and he comes in and hits lefty Joey Votto. Girardi shrugged it off and said Logan hasn't pitched in a week so he was rusty, but these pitchers are professional ballplayers, they have to do their job.

I have to give half credit to Eduardo Nunez in the bottom of the ninth inning too. Yes, he made an incredible diving catch to his right with running moving on base, but he couldn't get off the throw and it was a bouncer to 1st. Look, Nunez probably saved the game with that dive, but you can clearly see the inexperience because you just can't throw like that and risk the runners advancing firther. People can call Derek Jeter an old man all they want, but you really want experience in that spot and Jeter has it. Again, not picking on Nunez, just an observation.

Final Score tonight: Yankees 5 - Reds 3. Nice game one for this series gentlemen, keep it up!
