WHY THE YANKEES HAVE STAR POWER

“The three hits, the four RBI and the two homers, that’s what we signed him for... just a great day for Andruw.” --Joe Girardi

2 major stars today, no doubt. One of them of course being Andruw Jones who just played like he did when he was a true star with the Atlanta Braves. The second was veteran and big surprise of 2011, Freddy Garcia who did once again an amazing job of keeping the enemy guessing, being clever with his pitches and keeping the Yankees in the game all day long. That my friends is a crafty veteran in ever sense of the phrase.

Freddy lasted until the 7th inning. He had 4 strikeouts and allowed only 3 runs. Great job, really. Cashman must be smiling ear to ear right now.

Good stuff from Jeter and Granderson playing alittle small ball early and both doubling. Granderson's double knocked Jeter in. Yes, it may have taken awhile, but Derek Jeter's hitting again and he's apart of numerous plays each game now. That's much different than the beginning of the season when he looked alittle lost adjusting to his new swing. Bottom line, it's good to see the Captain back. Maybe he's alittle slower these days, but he's our Captain and we love him.

Again, Andruw Jones was on fire today, 2 home runs, 4 RBI's and his third hit, a single. If I'm the Yankees, I play him the next game to see if there's lightening still in that bottle. You ride the tide as long as you can and if Jones is hot, I say keep playing him.

Finally, a true salute of the greatest closer of all time. Mariano Rivera made his 1000th appearance of his career today. Today he didn't get a save, but think about 1000 for a second. That's alot of games and Mariano has been apart of a lot of Yankee history. His first appearance was on May 23, 1995. It was against the Angels. In that game, he pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed 5 runs. Man oh man, how far we've come. Today, he pitched a scoreless ninth. Congrats Mo, you deserve the best each and every day.

Final score today: Yankees 7 -Blue Jays 3. We're headed to Seattle. I put money on a Cashman meeting to discuss King Felix. No doubt a deal will be presented this weekend...mark my words.
