Yes, that's right, I said it. I hate to lose but Bartolo Colon is allowed to have a bad night. If you put it into perspective, this is the first time all year, including Spring Training I believe, that Colon hasn't been great in a pitching performance. Tonight he only lasted 4.1 innings and gave up 5 runs. Not exactly what he's been doing so far this year. So, what else can you do but give the guy a pass. He struggled early but then settled in, it was just too late. It stinks but those are the breaks sometimes.
The Yankee offense was exceptional tonight and the reason why I say that is because they had an old fashion rally tonight and it was nice to see. Some timely hitting, working walks and not just hitting home runs but clutch hits instead. That makes me smile, although, seeing Swisher crank his home run tonight was great. When Swish finally gets in his groove, it's going to be nice for everyone.
Cano had a nice triple tonight and Derek Sanderson Jeter hit a double, a beautiful shot off the left field wall and also scored a run. You have to love that Jeet was able to hit something other than a single. Bottom line, tonight's double may be the lifting of whatever "hitting block" he's got going on. Maybe he's feeling more comfortable at the plate....who knows, but I like it.
The worst part of the night for me is Boone Logan. He's kind of a disappointment. Yes, he's got great stuff, but what the hell is going on with his slider, it's not doing what he wants it to do. Plus, Boone's only job is to get lefty hitters out. He's not doing that, so I think that's a problem.
Now, it's not like there's another lefty specialist out there, there's isn't, so we're stuck with Boone, but we really need to figure Boone out, because it's getting late early and we could use the lefty specialist help.
Tonight, final score: Rangers 7 - Yankees 5. Tomorrow CC Monster is on the mound and look for my man to rebound and have a stellar pitching performance unlike his last outing. Lord knows we need a win and he's just the guy to do it.
