WHY THE YANKS ARE BETTER OFF WITHOUT MASCOTS

The Yankees are a classy franchise. We win rings, and championships, we don't have facial hair and we're clean cut ballplayers that only believe in winning. We also don't have mascots on the pro level. Well, actually we did. From 1979 to 1981, we had Dandy. The Wall Street Journal described him like this: "He was big and blue and a spectacular failure."

For the record, I believe none of the Yankees teams, from pro, down to Class A ball, should have them. Why? Because they are greedy sons of bitches.

Currently Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre Yankees have a disgruntled mascot, probably looking for a lot of money because the loser realizes that he is only a mascot and never did anything with his life. Ridiculous.

In federal court in Scranton, the mascot man, Brian Bonner claims he was hired at $22,000 a year to be the official team's mascot Champ. But he was laid off last month. Now Bonner says the team violated the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and the state Minimum Wage Act.

According to the suit, Bonner was given the title "marketing and community relations manager," even though his "primary duties were neither supervisory nor managerial." In a nutshell, while he was hired to be a mascot, he also did office work and sometimes ended up working over 70 hours a week.

Ok, let's stop right there. If you are hired to be a mascot, then be a mascot. Usually people only do the work their hired to do. But not Mr. Bonner apparently. This guy gets hired as a mascot, but then prances around the office helping out of "office tasks". Um, it sounds to me like you were asked to do things, and you just did them. Or maybe you did them thinking in the back of your head, "Hey, I'm being abused as an employee." Then, you get laid off and because you were laid off, suddenly it sounds like your disgruntled. Hmm. Not buying it.

Ok, so the BYB freaks are asking "Hey Mighty Casey, who cares." Well, you may be right. Many don't care. I do however. Mascots bother me. This is a job to entertain people and make people laugh. It's not a high paying job, you know that going in. If you understand that, everyone wins. Don't go after the whole franchise because you're unhappy or claim to be treated unfairly. Bottom line, you know why you were hired, you put a head on and run around a field all day. Stop this already, be a mascot. Jeez.
