WHY JONES IS THE ONE

Andruw Jones is a 4th outfielder that can offer some unique offense that others in the Free Agent Market can't. In my opinion, he's also a terrific option. Why?
  1. Hitting Lefties: Jones can still hit it out of the park, but there's also a very good stat you need to look at. Jones has a career OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) of .863 against lefties. I love that. Right now we have some lefty hitting outfielders in Gardner and Granderson. All is well and good, but the only other one we have is a switch hitting Swisher. Love that too. The good news is so while Swisher can turn to the right side for lefty pitching, the others can't. But Jones can... a righty that has amazing numbers against lefty pitching. On those days, give Gardy a rest and put in some pop, it could work in our advantage and you'll have legs and defense on the bench in the late innings in Gardner, sound good?

  2. Andruw Jones could be another Swisher. What do I mean? Reinventing a player. Look at Swisher. He was always a really good hitter with Oakland, but he lost something in Chicago. When he came to New York, he was like a dude in a boy band, super popular and his confidence gave him enough drive to get his mojo back. Jones, who's coming off an O-K season, could infact do the same. A lot of these players just want to be wanted. Once they get to a safe environment, things happen. Hopefully that can happen if Jones comes to the Bronx. I know it will for Russell Martin.

  3. Johnny Bravo doesn't make the cut. A reunion with Johnny Damon would be great, but now that I've read everything about Jones and his lefty pitching stats, the outfield situation, I just don't see it. We love you Johnny, but I just don't see it.

At the end of the day, I believe you need to give Jones a shot. In the end, we won't regret it, in fact, I would even suggest it could turn out to be a sleeper hit. Jones could be the diamond in the rough no one expected. Then again, the whole free agent market's a crap shoot, isn't it.
