HA HA HA. TRADE MOOKIE BETTS? WE'LL TAKE HIM

The Red Sox blow. And sometimes players just lose their mojo. It doesn't mean it's over for certain players. It just means that sometimes seasons don't go according to plan. That's why I hate diving into stats before games and talking about matchups. Because when the players finally take the field... it is that time and that time only that you know if the player is showing up or not.

Now comes chatter that because the Red Sox suck really, really bad, they need to just not re-sign  Mookie Betts... or trade him... or something. You know... cause free agency is coming for the young man.  Hey Red Sox! I'll take that chance... we'll take him over here in the Bronx!

Read this from Last Word On Baseball. A solid site:

"Boston’s next step is simple — trade Mookie Betts. Trading the former MVP should be at the top of Dave Dombrowski’s to-do list this offseason. Despite making multiple offers to Betts, the two sides haven’t been able to agree on a new deal for the outfielder. They even have had trouble agreeing to a salary in arbitration. Betts has made it clear that he will be playing out the remainder of his current contract. “I’ve loved it here. I love the front office, my teammates, coaches, everybody. It’s been nothing but amazing here. Just because you go to free agency doesn’t mean you don’t want to be somewhere,” said Betts. Although he’s saying the right things, this seems to be a tactic to get the Boston media off his back. Even if Betts does decide to resign — which seems unlikely — the question remains if it’s even worth it...Trading Betts creates an immediate avenue for them to get there hands on top-line prospects. "

True, but isn't Betts the biggest prize right now? Isn't it true that Betts doesn't win all the games for the Red Sox... that everyone needs to contribute?  This is silly. Betts is a keeper if I'm Dombrowski. And yes, while his value may be high, you don't cut off your nose to spite your face. This is crazy talk.

As you all know, I am no Red Sox fan, but I do respect the damn game and these players and all they do, and this story was very interesting to me.

Let's hope Cashman's paying attention. My guess is he is... big time.
