COULD THE 2017 YANKS HAVE ONE OF THE BEST OFFENSES IN HISTORY?

We love nuggets here at #BYB and this one's a beauty.  It's fun to peruse the headlines when it comes to our 2017 team and there is certainly no loss of interesting stories out there including Aaron Judge and his "reporting" antics for the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.  Catch them here... a quick highlight of the late night spoof- "there are only two gaps in NY: Strahan and Aaron Judge."  Gotta love it!

Anyway, back to the beautiful nugget about this year's team. According to CBS Sports, "the Yankees are batting a robust .270/.353/.456 as a team. Led by baseball golem Aaron Judge, the '17 Yanks are also on pace to hit 259 homers, which would be the third-highest total ever."  Check out these stats over the years.

According to the data collected, the 2017 Yankees are third overall in history in weighted runs created plus, which according to FanGraphs, "is a rate statistic which attempts to credit a hitter for the value of each outcome (single, double, etc.) rather than treating all hits or times on base equally, while also controlling for park effects and the current run environment." These stats currently reveal the Yankees' offense as 24% better than the league average currently in mix this year.  And keep in mind we have Starlin Castro and Aaron Hicks hitting well for us while Gary Sanchez hasn't found his groove yet.

With these statistics now and with those yet to come this season, could the Yankees have one of the best offenses in history? Very possibly.  At the very least, we have something fun to watch and to get excited about every night.  Sure we lost three to the Astros, who by the way are trending to be one of the best teams Houston has seen in franchise history, but we put up a lot of runs and hit the ball hard, almost coming back from a Masahiro Tanaka first inning fiasco on Sunday night, falling 10-7.

With the Yankee offense pulling its weight I guess the next question is could the Yankee pitching meet them halfway? Brian Cashman has publicly said that he has a stash of cash should the Yankees be in contention this year.  I guess we will wait and see but with this pace, let's not wait too long.
