SABATHIA INVOLVED IN ALTERCATION IN TORONTO

Seems like CC Sabathia had an unfortunately eventful weekend. According to a video that surfaced this weekend, and a TMZ report, Sabathia got into a verbal altercation outside of a club in Toronto Friday night, before being put into a cab by two members of his party.

According to reports, Sabathia was being heckled. While he didn't comment on exactly what was said, he did say that it is not uncommon for him to hear negative words spoken to him in public. It seems that it was just a bad night for him.

"I just flipped out," he said.  "I probably should've kept quiet and got in a cab. I'm just glad I ended up getting in the cab before everything went down. I didn't know that big fight happened afterward. It was a bad decision on my part."

To Sabathia's credit, he owned up to his mistake, and has expressed regret for his actions. While he wasn't involved in the physical melee, he did exchange words with his heckler, and had to be physically restrained and put into a cab. A mistake he acknowledges. We all have our bad days when we're operating on a hair trigger. He just happened to handle it poorly on that particular day.

Honestly, what concerns me more is him explaining the incident to his children. That's the parent in me, obviously. We live in a world where anything you do can be instantly sent to billions of people immediately. Being a celebrity and athlete amplifies that. Your actions are under constant scrutiny. He's a father who wants to set a good example for his children. Children, however, are far more understanding and forgiving than we give them credit for.

There's no word on whether or not the Yankees will take internal disciplinary action against him for this incident. It is highly unlikely. Sabathia regrets his actions. We'll chalk this up to an unfortunate lesson learned.
