JUST LIKE OLD TIMES...

What do you want me to say? That I didn't like the Alfonso Soriano deal? I did, I just questioned whether or not he was just an old guy being added to an old line-up.  He is, that's a fact, but he can still play.  And let's not have a debate about "old"... did you see Derek Jeter today?

I have always said that Derek Jeter has been at the right place at the right time when it comes to Yankee history and his journey.  He's blessed, and we are blessed to see this man do what thousands have tried to do in their own careers.  The Captain's seen the struggle with this club. The Captain knows his presence matters with this club.

That's not an ego thing, that's a team thing and when he walked up to the plate today and hit a home run in his first at bat, it was symbolism... "We ARE the Yankees, and it doesn't matter where we are now... what matters is that we will be playoff contenders in the fall!"

There was life behind the Captain today... and you have to love that.  Jeter was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Alfonso Soriano was 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs.  In other words... it was a good day and it was just like old times.

The scoring went like this:  Derek homers in the 1st and that was followed by Vernon Wells sacrificing in a run and Ichiro Suzuki singling in Soriano.

In the third, Soriano hit a 2 run home run and in the 9th, it was Soriano again, this time singling in Brett Gardner... and the win.

The pitching went like this... Phil Hughes went 4 innings, allowed 9 hits and 5 runs... I'm kind of over him so I'm not giving him much print today... it's over, the guys got to go. You don't perform, we can't use you...The End. After that, not another run was given up with Preston Claiborne, Boone Logan, David Robertson and Mariano Rivera coming in. Mo got the Win today.

But yeah, the story of the day was a healthy looking Jeter and a happy Soriano.  Maybe this is what we've been waiting for all along... let's keep it going boys!

Final: Yankees 6 - Rays 5
