Manny Ramirez to the Bronx" rumor is so God damn ridiculous. Because if you think about that "jolt" the Yankees need, we don't need a "jolt" that's presents itself as "Manny being Manny", because all that is is laziness. That's NOT running down baseballs and standing at the plate after a home runs or strikeouts. In other words, we DON'T need Manny, we need energy that we manufacture ourselves... just like we did in April and the beginning of May.
Look, I respect the writers at MLB.com, but floating a story about how "great it could be" to have Manny Ramirez in the Bronx, not only stirs controversy, it's also bologna. The byline on Richard Justice's piece makes me cringe (full piece HERE), "Yankees are needy enough on offense and well-positioned to take a chance" it reads. Trust me, the Yankees have the tools, and we're not desperate Richard. Seriously?
He writes: "...there's also an easy case to be made for the Yankees giving Manny a shot. Or the Kansas City Royals, who also need offense.... Manny is a lot of things, but dumb isn't one of them. He knows what the Yanks represent. Ramirez surely would know that they could provide him with the opportunity to put a better finishing touch on his career. He would also know they wouldn't put up with him misbehaving."
In the end, all I got from this piece was he needed extra clicks on MLB.com and he got them. The piece was empty inside. I learned nothing except the fact that Manny "might" be a good fit on teams that need offense and the Yankees are one of them. But there's a much bigger point ignored, and it was probably ignored on purpose... it's PEDs.
Francisco Cervelli and Alex Rodriguez accused of being knee deep in the Biogenesis scandal already? They wouldn't... and if they do it and they turned a blind eye with everything we know about Manny... the PEDs, the laziness, the clowning around, they'd be fools and in the end, the Yankees would deserve to not make the playoffs!
The Yankees can do it on there own. We have the tools and the ability, but we've lost it of late. We can get it back, but Manny Ramirez is not the answer and he sure as hell is not going to catapult these Yankees into winning again. In fact, it's my opinion that it will be a distraction and will end up ruining them worse than they are already.
That's my take anyway.
